Become a Webmaster: Build and Maintain Your First Website

You can learn website management by doing the work on a small practice site. Start with a useful page, a clear purpose, and one action a visitor should be able to complete. Then learn how to keep that action working.

This series follows a fictional neighborhood repair business from planning to ongoing care. You will build a service page, test an inquiry, document account responsibilities, and create a maintenance routine. The project is an illustration; it is not a customer case study.

Your practice project

The business needs three pages: Home, Services, and Contact. Its goal is to receive inquiries about repairs. It needs a website address, hosting or a website platform, and a way to receive messages. Later lessons use this same project so each new task builds on work you have already done.

You can follow the planning exercises without purchasing anything. When you begin building, use a separate practice environment and test information.

Make the work visible

For each lesson, keep one small deliverable: a diagram, a page outline, a test record, or a checklist. By the end, those records will show how you planned and managed the site, rather than only what it looks like.

Start with Lesson 1: Map the Website’s Foundations. Complete the provider map, then continue to Lesson 2: Plan a Website That Helps Visitors Act. Future lessons will be linked here when available.
